We hear a lot about the health benefits of wine. Studies have shown that it's good for the heart, the brain, and general health. It can lower bad cholesterol, has polyphenols, a type of antioxidant that keeps blood vessels flexible, among other things. And has resveratrol that has been shown to reduce both stress and depression.
There have also been studies that show that dark chocolate can be good for your health. Chocolate is one of the best sources of antioxidants, is a good source of fiber, and can increase blood flow to the brain.
Let’s begin with the basics. The healthy stuff in wine is in red wine. They come from the skins of the grapes, so darker red wines are going to be better for our diet than white or rose. The healthy stuff in chocolate is best when the chocolate is strongest, 70% cocoa or greater. So will a good deep red wine and a bar of 85% dark chocolate make you live forever? No, but you may live longer, and you will be happier.
So if both wine and chocolate are good for your health, what would a wine and chocolate diet be like?
Yummy.
Ok, you may want to add some other foods as well, but wine and chocolate, in moderation, are actually good for you. So enjoy!
